WELCOME TO ILHA DOS ARVOREDOS: A SUSTAINABLE PARADISE

Designed in 1950 by engineer and visionary Fernando Eduardo Lee, Ilha dos Arvoredos spans 36,000 m² and offers more than just breathtaking scenic beauty. It holds unique historical, scientific, and environmental significance within the Baixada Santista, situated in the Litoral Centro Marine APA (Environmental Protection Area), alongside other vital green areas like mangroves, Serra do Mar State Park, and Guararu Hills EPAs (Environmental Protection Areas).

Managed by the Fernando Eduardo Lee Foundation, Ilha dos Arvoredos showcases various sustainable technologies, distinctive architecture, and accomplishments that challenge even the most skeptical minds, reshaping the narrative of sustainability history in Brazil. Over the years, the island has functioned as a research hub in collaboration with University of Ribeirão Preto - Unaerp and other scientific institutions, dedicated to advancing knowledge in scientific and environmental studies, thereby preserving its scientific legacy.

A key highlight of Arvoredos Island is its Green Key certification, an international certificate of excellence in social responsibility and environmental sustainability in the tourism sector. As the first and only ecotourism site in the Americas and the Southern Hemisphere to receive this certification, the Island is further established as a leading example in Environmental Education for Sustainability.

Ilha dos Arvoredos: A Sustainable Paradise invites the public to explore, learn, and take part in collaborative environmental activities. Based on a doctoral thesis that developed a hands-on approach to Environmental Education, the project combines science with a strong commitment to nature, highlighting the importance of protecting and restoring the ecosystems along the São Paulo coast.
